and professional education, delivery of services to cancer patients and
their families and promotion of public and patient advocacy. Coaches vs.
Cancer has the opportunity to really influence and make an impact in the
fight against cancer. Through Coaches vs. Cancer, NABC coaches work to
offer Hope, Progress and Answers to overcome this deadly disease. At
Penn State, Rene Portland and Jerry Dunn bring the same dedication that

This year’s theme is “..Hope and a Future”. This is a fundraising event
for Care Net Pregnancy Centers of the Lehigh Valley. Funds raised from
this event are used to continue providing mentoring, community referral
services, options information, abstinence- based school and youth group
presentations, support groups, and material resources to women, men and

South Philadelphia. There are eleven water stations, digital clocks at
each mile, aid stations, and numerous ambulances along the course. The
Blue Cross Broad Street Run benefits the American Cancer Society through
runners’ donations. Two day Health & Fitness Expo at Lincoln Financial
Field on May 4th and May 5th. There are great kids' activities at the
finish line. This course is certified by the USATF.

Fourth Annual Edwin Taylor Memorial 5K Run and Fitness Walk will be held

by the Oakside Community Park Board of Directors in memory of Edwin
Taylor, a beloved Upper Adams resident who volunteered with the
Biglerville High School Band and Upper Adams Jaycees for nearly thirty
years. The 5K Run and Fitness Walk was established to honor Edwin Taylor
and raise awareness of the importance of good health and the arts,
specifically music programs in schools. With Mr. Taylor’s support, local
area school bands have received state and nation-wide recognition thanks

The 17th annual Spirit of Gettysburg 5K will be held on Saturday, July
14, 2007 at 8 a.m. The Annual Spirit of Gettysburg 5K Run, 1-Mile Fun
Run/Fitness Walk, & Kids’ Runs is one of the largest road racing events
held in South Central Pennsylvania. More than 1000 runners will assemble
at the YWCA Gettysburg & Adams County to participate in this exciting
community event. The Spirit of Gettysburg is about families
participating together in healthy recreational activities. With a
variety of events planned, every member of the family can participate.
In addition, childcare is available to all registered runners.
Wheelchair division is available. The 5K race is held on the Battlefield

injury—but her academic and physical struggles did not stop her “can do”

its incorporation in 1999, Hazelwood Initiative has taken the lead on
issues involving the well-being and redevelopment of Greater Hazelwood.
As we plan the 10th run, our focus this year is community development
and revitalization. Our event will highlight recent and ongoing efforts
to revitalize the Hazelwood community. Races in previous years have
proven to be great successes for the Hazelwood Initiative and for the
community as a whole. In its ninth season, we brought in close to 140
runners and walkers. The event is always a tremendous amount of fun with
balloon displays overhead, police motorcades, and various forms of
entertainment. Spectators line the race course and everyone has a

Details: First mile of the 13.1 mile course has a slight climb, followed
by four miles of flat, then several challenging climbs with similar
descents. Then, the course returns to the four miles of flat and
finishes just past where you started. There will be stations with water
and diluted sports drinks. Goodies, fruit and pretzels will be provided
at the finish. Cash prizes will be awarded.
