His imprisonment at the jail set the stage for a sequence of events that led to his eventual escape to freedom. His accomplishments changed history and made extensive improvements in the lives of all Americans. Walkers, runners and wheelchair athletes will retrace this historic route to raise monies for the creation of a memorial to honor Frederick Douglass on the Talbot County Courthouse lawn. The “5 For Families Race” is a 5K scenic, slightly hilly trail that winds through Meadowbrook Park with views of wetlands, open fields and wooded areas. The one mile fun walk is an easy paved walk for both children and adults. Children’s crafts and face painting will be ongoing starting at 8:30 a.m. Awards will be given to all children who participate in the fun walk and craft activities. Participant T Shirts will be given to the first 150 registrants Trophies are given to first place overall female and male. Medals are given to first and second place runners in each of eight different age categories beginning with ages under 14 to runners over age 70. This race is also for the athlete who wants to try something new and challenging. DUthe2 is Howard County's first Duathlon! This event has a 7:00 AM start staged out of Western Regional Park. This event is easy to get to and is a welcomed change to experienced local multi-sport athletes. The one lap - 2 mile run transitions into an 26 mile rolling bike course on the rural roads of Western Howard County. With only 3 true "hill climbs" this is a fast course! The final 2 lap -4 mile course is the same as the 1st run segment in that it is a combination of paved road and walking paths. DUthe2 Duathlon starts and finishes inside Western Regional Park.

Join us this fall in Salisbury, Maryland for the Hidden Treasures Half Marathon & 5K. The weekend will kick-off with the Family Sports & Fitness Expo on Saturday from 11am to 5pm, which will offer running/health related vendors. Runners are also required to pick up their participant packets during this time. On Sunday, runners will return to the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center for opening ceremonies at 7:45am. The Half Marathon will start at 8am and the 5K will begin shortly after at 8:30am. The 13.1 mile course is a flat, scenic loop that passes the Salisbury City Park, to Eastern Shore Dr, then crosses Salisbury University campus to Riverside Dr. From there you will make your way back to the finish via city & county neighborhoods and backroads. The 5K course is a 3.1 mile route that takes a scenic loop thru the Salisbury City Park. It meanders thru the tree-lined streets of the park area neighborhoods, then takes you down S Park Dr and around to N Park Dr, to finish inside the Civic Center. On both courses, novice to experienced runners will enjoy the sites of Salisbury City Park, downtown Salisbury and our historic neighborhoods and lovely backroads. The race will conclude inside the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center arena so family and friends can cheer loved ones on as they cross the finish line. Early Registration is $40 for the Half Marathon and $25 for the 5K. After August 1, entry fees will be $55 for the Half Marathon and $35 for the 5K
