The event, which is hosted by the Winchester Rotary Club and the Shenandoah Valley Runners, will take place on Saturday 31 March 2007 at 9:00 AM, and runners of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. The 5K follows a mildly rolling 3.1 mile route through the park and the grounds of nearby Shenandoah University. We'll have awards for the top three overall, the top three Masters (40 & over) finishers, and the top three in mostly five-year age groups. After the 5K, there'll be a quarter mile out-and-back fun run for children. Our entry fees are $16 for the 5K and $3 for the kids run, with all proceeds benefitting Rotary Charities. Course is rolling hills on mostly gravel access road that runs through the middle of the Manassas Battlefield Park, the course is approx. 2 miles, but if you would like a little longer walk and a History Lesson you will have the opportunity to go to Portici, Ball’s Family Cemetery and other historical Markers/Sites, feel free to stop. Run – Includes the Walk Route but adds at least 1 mile of trail running that runs through the woods and open pasture that is mixed in there along the way. Directions: Take I-66 to Exit 47 (Bus Hwy 234 North / Sudley Road North), Take Sudley Road North to first light and make a right on Battleview Parkway. Strayer University Entrance at 9990 Battleview Parkway is 0.7 miles from Sudley Road. Go to behind the Strayer University building and look for Registration Table at the back of the parking lot. Funds will help pay for therapy to help him walk again. He is currently in Carlsbad, CA. at Project Walk where is working very hard to regain movement in his lower body. When he arrived there in Sept 06, he could barely move his feet. He is now walking with crutches. Insurance does not pay for the $1000/week therapy. His family and friends have organized this race to help with expenses. |

The event will begin and end at the Cecil F. Gilkerson Community Activities Center in Harrisonburg, VA. All proceeds from this event will benefit Rockingham Memorial Hospital Breast Cancer Treatment. T-shirts will be provided for the first 250 pre-registered. Refreshments will be provided before and after the event. There will be a raffle/door prize drawing following the race for all those participants. Race plaques will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age division. This 5-9 hour adventure race is the longest and most challenging adventure race on the EX2 calendar. This race was designed for the sport level racer, however, VQ has challenged both seasoned vets and the first time adventure racer. Racers must find a series of checkpoints as they bike along the demanding semi-technical single-track of the Fountainhead Mountain Biking Trail system, navigate both on and off trail along the Bull Run-Occoquan trail system corridor, and paddle the slow moving waters of the Occoquan Reservoir. The VentureQuest course changes every year and stays a mystery until race weekend. Over the years, the overall distance of the course has consistently measured between 28-35 miles. Teams of three and solo competitors navigate a course with segment breakdowns ranging from 3-8 miles of paddling, 8-13 miles of trekking, and 10-16 miles of mountain biking. VentureQuest is held in Western Fairfax County only 30 minutes west of Washington DC. The race course runs through three parks operated by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. The terrain is gorgeous and has a truly remote feel for being so close to a major metro area. Racers love the fact that they can compete in a challenging adventure race so close to home. |

The 10th running of the Greasy-Gooney 10K will take place at 9:00 AM on Saturday 25 October 2008 in Browntown, about eight miles south of Front Royal. Held at the peak of the fall foliage season, our somewhat challenging 6.2 mile road race loops through the foothills of the Blue Ridge, treating runners to gorgeous views of the mountains and countryside. Runners of all abilities are welcome to participate! You needn't run the race competitively, but we will have awards for the top three overall and for the top three in mostly five-year age groups. Entry fees are $13 by 10/8 and $16 thereafter (including race day), with a $5 discount if you don't want a race t-shirt and a $1 discount for members of the Shenandoah Valley Runners.
