Englewood residents, Dr. Joshua Hyman and his wife Liz Corsini, board members of Children of China Pediatrics Foundation (CCPF), are chairing the event. Dr. Hyman is also a participating surgeon in CCPF’s medical missions. Children of China Pediatrics Foundation sends volunteer medical teams to China to provide free surgical and other medical care to children living in orphanages. These children have been abandoned by parents unable to provide for their care. They often languish for years in institutional settings although a few hours of corrective surgery could dramatically transform their lives. Over the past 10 years CCPF has transformed the lives of hundreds of such children. Many have gone on to be adopted by families. Although all of the team members volunteer their time and many even cover their travel expenses, funds are still needed to cover the cost of equipment, supplies and accommodations. Along with being a sanctioned USA Track and Field event, entertainment for the day will include DJ Lu Ong, food vendors, give aways, moon rides, and much more. We are confident in the event's success and in our goal of 1000 participants. The Sean Hanna Foundation was founded and organized in honor of the life of Sean Hanna. In the Spring of 2007, and at the young age of 20 years old, Sean passed away after a life long fight with cancer. The legacy he leaves behind, however, impacted all those who knew him. In his short life, Sean accomplished more than many healthy individuals do their entire lives. He led an inspirational life, and it is the hopes of this foundation to continue what Sean started; we hope to be an aid in the lives of those who embody the attributes that all of us saw in Sean: a desire to live a worthwhile and exciting life, an interest in helping those in need, and a hope to impact the lives of others. It is with this in mind that the Foundation seeks out ways to help those who, despite dealing with a serious chronic illness, live their life to the fullest just as Sean did. More information about Sean's life and the Foundation can be found at www.seanhannafoundation.org |
