The race benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure, The Arc of Orange County, The Lineberger Cancer Center, Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, and Ashton’s Angels. In the past years we have consistently raised over $45,000 for our cause and we strive to continue this goal. The race begins and ends at Bynum Circle on Cameron Avenue right in the middle of UNC's beautiful campus. We hope to you see you on March 17, 2012 at 9:30 am!

The race, which will start at 8:00am, will begin and conclude at the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 East Main Street, Lincolnton. The race course, which is moderate in difficulty, will travel through Lincolnton’s tranquil uptown residential areas. Registration for race will begin at 7:00am the day of the race, though participates can benefit from early bird registration online at www.artslincolnnc.org. Registration fee is $20 after May 20, 2012 and $15.00 for early bird registration. The first 25 runners to register will receive a free race t-shirt and hand-made clay medallion. All proceeds will benefit the Arts Council of Lincoln County local artist gallery exhibits.

The USATF certified course begins and ends on the Hay Street side of the museum. The top three men and women in each race will receive trophies. The top three men and women in their age group will receive medals. Online registration is available through www.active.com, which will also accept donations. Registration is also available at the museum. Participants may turn in their forms and entry fee in the museum gift shop, or mail them to the museum. Registration is $20 through June 1st. Day of Registration is $25 and will be available beginning at 6:30am. Strollers, wagons, and well behaved, leashed dogs are permitted, but will be asked to start in the back. MORE FUN! This year we have added more live music! The race will start with a banjo tribute to Earl Scruggs who passed away March 28, 2012. There will be live music where the 5K and 10K split as well as in the reception area of the Don Gibson Theatre following the run, prior to the awards ceremony. WIN $250 FOR YOUR SCHOOL Students in elementary through high school are encouraged to come out and bring their friends. The school with the highest number of students participating in this event will be awarded a trophy and a $250 gift to their school's PTO to be used as determined by the PTO. The numbers from both the 5K and 10K will be added together to determine the total count per school and one award will be given based on that total. The winning school will be recognized during the awards ceremony. The 2011 winner was Union Elementary. ROUTE Live music begins at 8:00 a.m. and will kick off the race at 8:30 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk will start and finish with the 10K Run at the Don Gibson Theatre located at 318 South Washington Street in historic Uptown Shelby. Your route takes you through Uptown Shelby and around the historic 1907 courthouse on the beautiful court square. The courthouse is under development to become the future home of the Earl Scruggs Center: Music & Stories from the American South (opening soon). Earl Scruggs is a Cleveland County native known worldwide for his three finger style on the banjo as well as his innovation with the banjo in other areas of music. The route passes historic homes on tree-lined streets and you will be treated to live music at the 5K/10K split then return through Uptown to cross the finish line back at the Don Gibson Theatre with live music and refreshments in the reception area. Photographers will take photos throughout the course and at the awards ceremony. The awards ceremony will be held after the 10K concludes and results are compiled. Photos will be made available through www.earlscruggscenter.org for free. Participation medals will be given to all youth (12 and under). Championchip Timing Systems will be used to time this run.
